Cycle for the Cause: Final Boston to NYC Route/Ride – FAQ

After decades of riding from Boston to New York City in support of HIV/AIDS services and the LGBTQ+ community, Cycle for the Cause is preparing to close the Boston to NYC route chapter, and inaugurate a new “ribbon” route in 2026.

Why now? This ride has always been about impact. And as our community’s needs evolve, so must our approach. Rising costs, shifting participation trends, and the need to ensure every dollar raised goes directly to life-saving services have led us to rethink how we gather, how we ride, and how we move forward. As you may have heard, The Center is facing real challenges—from funding cuts to program pressures— and we are focused on moving forward with hope and strength. Our upcoming Boston-to-NYC ride is a great opportunity to show up, rally together, and keep our HIV and AIDS services going strong.

Rethinking the route has allowed us to explore an exciting and more accessible Ride model next year to serve our mission more sustainably, starting in 2026.

About the 2025 Ride

Q: Is this really the final time we’ll ride from Boston to NYC?
Yes. 2025 Will be the final year of the full 275-mile Boston to NYC route. Starting in 2026, Cycle for the Cause will transition to a new, more accessible model based in the NYC area.

Q: Why is this the last Boston to NYC ride?
Rising costs, rider feedback, and increasing competition in the peer-to-peer event space, and the need to ensure every dollar raised goes directly to the life-saving services led us to reimagine the Ride. Retiring the point-to-point distance route allows us to build a more sustainable and inclusive experience for the future.

Q: What are the dates for the final Boston to NYC ride?
Cycle 2025 takes place September 18-21, 2025.

Q: How many spots are left?
The Ride is already over 80% full as of this announcement. Registration is first-come, first served. Virtual ride options are also available if you can’t join in person.

About the new 2026 Ride Model

Q: What’s changing in 2026?
Cycle will become a 3-day “out-and-back” ride based in the NYC area, with a single hotel base (no moving luggage or switching rooms) for both (2) nights, and flexible mileage options.

Q: Will it still include a Century Ride (100 miles)?
Yes! Day 2 will still offer a full century ride, along with shorter loop options.

Q: What are the benefits of the new format?

  • No long-distance travel
  • One hotel the entire weekend
  • Less time off work (just one weekday)
  • Easier logistics
  • Greater access for newer riders or those with limited mobility or time
  • Ability to dropoff bike likely on Thursday in NYC

Q: What is staying the same?

  • Almost everything!
  • Fundraising mins
  • Rest stops, Support, Sweep, Bike Tech and Full Crew Support
  • Dinners and Fantastic Nightly Programming
  • Breakfasts and Sendoffs
  • Closing Celebration Finish Line @ The Center

Why Cycle Matters
